Action Long Island
Action Long Island (ALI), established in 1981, is a volunteer, non profit organization that provides its’ members with networking and advocacy opportunities through our task forces. The task forces are comprised of members to address key issues and present information and/or solutions to the public through many different forums.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote business and economic development and improve the quality of life for Long Island residents. To accomplish this mission, ALI brings leaders from the business, professional, labor, education, government, and civic communities who have joined together with local, county, state and federal officials for the mutual benefit of the business climate and quality of residential life on Long Island.

History
Since 1981, Action Long Island has been developing relationships between business and government agencies to raise and resolve issues that directly influence industry and the quality of life on Long Island.
Among our many accomplishments,
- Created a model plan for local airports to keep Republic Airport open, which was later implemented nationally by the F.A.A.
- Advocated successfully in Albany to widen Route 110.
- Advocated in Washington & secured $10 million seed money for the Heavy Ion Project at Brookhaven National Labs.
- Fought and won in Washington, to keep the T-46A Contract at Fairchild-Republic.
- Major Long Island supporter to the passage of the 2005 New York State Transportation Bond Issue.
- Created the first Recycling Forum for the business community with the support of the Towns of Babylon, Huntington, Islip and Smithtown.
- Advocated for completion of LIE Service Roads and 4th lanes.
- Created a forum for Recycling Long Island’s industrial waste and later started a recycling program for companies on Route 110.
- Created the Long Island Energy Cooperative to lower business energy costs.
- Formed the Long Island Economic Initiative with 38 participating organizations to address the downturn in Long Island’s economy.
- Formed the 110 Transportation Management Association to address traffic challenges on Route 110.
- Established the first day care program on Route 110.
- Coordinated a project with 7 school districts & 700 students to study Statehood for Long Island.
- Obtained agreement from Department of Transportation to widen LIE Service Roads.
- Implemented a transportation program on the 110 corridor together with M.T.A., L.I.R.R. & LI Bus.
- Joined with New York State Department of Transportation to create L.I.E.-H.O.V. Lane Task Force.
- Changed the Employee Commute Options (ECO) Regulations from mandatory to voluntary along with The 110 Transportation Management Association.
- Forced LIPA to take over LILCO.
- Advocated for much needed repairs to traffic signals along Route 347 between Northern State Parkways and Route 25.
- Advocated successfully for the elimination of Centralized Vehicle Emission Testing Program on LI.
- Were instrumental in the opening of the HOV lane for regular traffic during non peak hours.
- Were instrumental in installing the traffic light at the intersection of Route 110 and Long Island Expressway service road.
Helped to organize the Long Island Museum of Science and Technology.
